How We Handle Small Jobs

Every job follows the same straightforward process, whether it takes thirty minutes or a full day.

Step 2 — Quote. For straightforward jobs, we can often quote over the phone or from photos. For anything that needs a look first, we arrange a quick visit at no charge.

Step 3 — Book and complete. We agree a time that works for you, turn up on time, and do the job. Dust sheets down, mess cleaned up, everything tested before we leave.

Step 4 — Certificate. Any notifiable work gets registered with Building Control through NAPIT. You receive a Minor Works Certificate or Electrical Installation Certificate for your records — important if you ever sell the property.

Do Small Electrical Jobs Need Certification?

It depends on the job. Under Part P of the Building Regulations, certain electrical work in domestic properties is notifiable and must be either carried out by a registered competent person like a NAPIT-registered electrician or inspected by Building Control.

Notifiable work includes adding a new circuit, work in a bathroom or kitchen that involves new wiring, installing an outdoor socket, and any work in a special location such as a swimming pool or sauna. Non-notifiable work includes replacing like-for-like sockets, switches, and light fittings — provided the existing circuit is not altered.

The practical difference? Common Questions About Small Electrical Jobs

Is it worth calling an electrician for one socket?

Yes. A single socket installation is a quick, affordable job. We would rather fit one socket properly than have you use an adapter or extension lead permanently — that is a fire risk. There is no minimum job size.

Can I change a light fitting myself?

Replacing a like-for-like fitting on an existing circuit is not notifiable, but if you are not confident with the wiring configuration — particularly in older properties with loop-in ceiling roses — it is safer to get a qualified electrician to do it. Getting it wrong can damage the fitting, trip the circuit, or create a shock risk.
