Thorpe Hesley sits just east of junction 35 of the M1, on the northern edge of Rotherham. It has been within the town boundary since 1894 and the last census put the population at about four thousand one hundred and fifty. An old working village, and what that means for your electrics
Coal has been worked around here for something like eight hundred years, and the village was known for nail making as well. The three modern pits closed during the nineteen seventies and eighties and were demolished completely. Holy Trinity Church went up in 1839, paid for largely by Earl Fitzwilliam.
What all that leaves today is a genuinely mixed village. Older stone and brick properties that have been extended and modernised more than once, sat next to later estates and newer developments off the main roads. The age of a house tells me roughly where to look, but it is the alterations people have made since that tell me what I am going to find behind the sockets.
